I am excited about the upcoming Optical Fiber & Communications (OFC 2022) Conference in San Diego for several reasons. Not only will it be the first in-person conference that I have attended in more than two years due to the pandemic, but the thing that I am most excited about is the fact that Ribbon will be showcasing our new IP Wave offering at the show. OFC is a great venue to highlight our capabilities in delivering world-class IP and Optical solutions to communications service providers of all sizes.

As networks become increasingly more complex, the operational paradigm has to shift to more open-architecture based solutions that help service providers automate and optimize their networks to drive value from their existing investments, while giving them the ability and agility to quickly deliver new revenue-generating services. That’s exactly what IP Wave delivers: Automation; Optimization; and Openness.

IP Wave is Ribbon’s framework for creating service-driven IP Optical networking solutions that enable service providers to address major network and operational challenges by building, deploying, managing and future-proofing their multi-layer data and optical networks. IP Wave solutions fuse optimized hardware and automation software within an open architecture to give service providers the agility they need to rapidly create and deliver innovative services.

The thing that sets us apart from the competition is that Ribbon is the only vendor with a complete offering, under one organizational roof, that delivers advanced IP routing, Optical Transport, and Automation and Orchestration software, all supported by world-class professional services.

Our IP Wave optimized hardware includes:

  • Fit for purpose IP routing optimized for multi-access edge, aggregation and metro networks
  • 400G optical transport everywhere, with up to 1.2T per channel
  • Forecast tolerant multilayer integration encompassing both IPoDWDM and IPoOT (Optical Transport)
  • Open architectures, unlocking the innovation velocity and improved economics offered by disaggregated networking

IP Wave software enables service providers to automate operational processes gradually and at their own pace. Combining analytics, workflow engines, and closed loop processes. IP Wave delivers practical automation, from human-assisted to intent-driven, while supporting multi-domain, multi-vendor environments. Ribbon leverages cloud native SDN orchestration software with DevOps to customize applications to customers’ specific needs.

Given the explosion in the demand for network capacity and new services and the need to rapidly adapt to changing consumer and market dynamics, service providers are increasingly seeking cost-effective solutions that will easily fit into their operational environments. A perfect example is the recent deployment of our Optical Transport solutions by Rogers Communications, who selected our technology to upgrade its transport network. Rogers is one of the first tier-one North American service providers to leverage our DWDM 400G ZR+ technology, which supports multiple 400 Gigabits-per-second (400G) connections for increased capacity across its national footprint.

The customers with whom we are engaging on our new IP Wave offering have been extremely receptive to our ‘no agenda’, consultative approach and really appreciate the fact that we collaborate closely with them to customize our solutions to address their unique network challenges.

Our competitive differentiation with IP Wave is that Ribbon can deliver a holistic set of solutions to address the challenges of building, maintaining and operating multi-layer communications networks. We are extremely excited about our unique ability to help our service provider customers address these pain points head-on with an innovative economical, flexible approach.

We will be showcasing our IP Wave framework at the OFC Conference in San Diego, March 8 -10, at booth #3749. I hope to see you at the show!
